School System in the USA
Choosing the right school for your child can be a difficult task. Prep Education Consulting aims to facilitate this decision by providing information about the American Education system.
As in any city there are the schools most commented and considered as ”the best”. However, it is worth remembering that this classification is based on general aspects such as results in the tests or program offered. Each school has its peculiarities and depending on the profile of the child a school considered excellent may not be exactly the best.
Schools offer different teaching methods, philosophies and learning opportunities.
- ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Go from kindergarten to 5th grade. The common acronym used is K-5.
- MIDDLE SCHOOL: Goes from 6th grade to 8th grade. The acronym used is 6-8.
- HIGH SCHOOL: Goes from 9th grade to 12th grade. The acronym used is 9-12.
A school that says K-8 offers elementary and middle school, that is, goes from K-8 to grade 8. Few are K-12, meaning they offer complete education from Kindergarten-high school to high school.
The American Educational System is composed of public and private schools. Each has its advantage, and its methodology. Both public and private can be found in several areas. Important factors to consider are: safety, structure, size, location and performance of the school.
